Richard Henry Peterson

Richard (Dick) H. Peterson of Heron, MT passed away at home of natural causes Sunday, December 18, 2011. Dick was born October 18, 1932 to Henry A. and Mary B. (Podlas) Peterson in Camden, WA. He attended school in Nordman, ID, and then in Sandpoint, ID, graduating Sandpoint High School in 1950. After a summer working for the US Forest Service, Dick enlisted in the Air Force, where he served during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he resumed work with the Forest Service Blister Rust Control at Priest Lake, ID. This turned into a permanent career of 47 years in fire and fuel management in Noxon, MT, followed by Cabinet Ranger District at Trout Creek, MT. He retired in January 2003. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas K. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Laura (Harker) Peterson of Heron, a brother, Theodore R. Peterson (Linda) of Hamilton, MT, and a daughter, Jennifer K. (Peterson) Dillenbeck (Nicholas) of Ramstein, Germany. Services will be held at 2pm MST at Heron United Methodist Church with internment at Lakeview Cemetery in Sandpoint, ID.
