Charles Peter Daar

On April 4, 2013 Charles P Daar, 94, passed away of a broken heart at his home at Luther Park. Charles lost the love of his life, his wife Olga of 74 years, on December 5, 2012 and he could not recover from this loss. A reception honoring his life will be held on Monday, April 8, 2013 in the Craft Room at Luther Park, 510 S. Olive, Sandpoint. Idaho. Charles was born Oct. 2, 1918 in Detroit, MI the son of Charles and Frances Haskins Daar. He attended Detroit public elementary schools, and graduated from Denby High School in Detroit in 1936. On Jan. 23, 1940 Charles married the love of his life Olga Brayovich and they were married for 74 years. Mr. Daar served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-1945. He was in the 324th Infantry Regiment of the 44th Infantry Division. He saw combat action in France, Germany and Austria. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Metal, WWII, Victory Metal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. Mr. Daar attended Lawrence Technological University in Detroit where he graduated in 1954 as an Associate Engineer in Mechanical Technology. He later attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces where he took courses in the Economics of National Security in 1960 and National Security Management in 1968. In 1968 he received his teaching credentials in Industrial Arts from the State of California. Charles worked for Chrysler Corporation in Detroit MI, Independent Auto Body Repair Shops, Department of Streets and Railroads all in Detroit, MI; the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI, Chrysler Corporation in Maywood, CA, Community Pontiac in Whittier, CA, and the Los Angeles Unified School District in Los Angeles. Throughout his life his focus was on his family. He enjoyed travel, fixing family vehicles after they had wrecked them, and doing whatever his wife wanted him to do. He is survived by his son: Roger (Sherry) Daar, Sr. of Sagle; daughters: Frances (Emmanuel) Llado of Bend, OR, Linda (Rick) Watt of Laclede; seven grandchildren: Roger Daar, Jr. of Spring, TX, Charles Daar of Tomball, TX, Kathleen Franzke of Van Nuys, CA, Sharleen Cuevas of Bend, OR, Jason Centorbi of Newport, WA, Chelsea Popaleo of Sandpoint, ID, Sarah Hess of Dover, ID; and by 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, and two brothers, Edward and Clarence.
