Floyd Wayne Sundgren

Floyd Wayne Sundgren, 81, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on December 23, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division St., Sandpoint, Idaho with Pastor Barry Johnson from New Song Bible Church officiating. Wayne was born in Spokane, WA on May 12, 1925, the son of Eric and Myrtle Sundgren. The family moved to Sandpoint in 1939 and he graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1943. Following high school he joined the US Army, serving during WW II. After the war he worked for Sundgren’s Green Houses, and Furniture Exchange. He married Berniece Hardung on Dec. 27, 1946 in Spokane, WA. Wayne was called back to military duty during the Korean conflict, again serving with the US Army. After completing his military duty he returned to Sandpoint and went to work for the US Postal Service. He worked in many positions in the Post Office, including being a rural route carrier for many years, retiring in 1980. He liked to go fishing in Westport and enjoyed the Oregon coast. He was a charter member of the VFW, William D. Martin Post, #2453. He enjoyed bowling, fixing things, and growing tomatoes. Wayne is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Berniece Sundgren of Sandpoint, ID; a daughter Gayle Sundgren of Sandpoint, ID; grandson Chris Sundgren of Sandpoint, ID; 2 great- grandchildren Sierra and Shalayna of Sandpoint, ID; and his brother Don Sundgren Spokane, WA. His parents and a sister Beverly Self preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Sandpoint Animal Shelter.
