Cheryl Lynn Otremba

April 4, 1960 — October 20, 2019

Cheryl Lynn Mecham was born April 4th 1960 to Carolyn and Lyle Mecham in Sandpoint, Idaho.  Growing up, her favorite things to do were flowers, cooking, sewing and playing music. By the time she graduated from High School in Beach, North Dakota, Cheryl had become an accomplished pianist, and had earned a scholarship to George Fox University for music.  However, on May 18th, 1978, Cheryl happened to meet the love of her life, Dan Otremba, and they became engaged about a week later. Cheryl made the decision to begin her life with Dan instead of going to college, and the couple were married December 22nd, 1978. It was a decision she never regretted.

The couple lived in North Dakota for the birth of their two sons Aron and Paul, then moved to Spokane in 1986 and stayed in the valley as their sons grew up. Cheryl was a supportive and loving wife, and was active in her sons’ lives as a gentle teacher and encourager. Between raising her two boys, working full-time as a medical transcriptionist, and being involved in activities and events in church, Cheryl was always busy, but never too busy to make time for anyone.

People like Cheryl are a rare gift in life.  With never an unkind word to say about anything or anyone, and always quick to encourage and lift others up, Cheryl was loved by everyone who met her. She took every opportunity to encourage and mentor so many people throughout her life, and always in such a sweet and gentle way. She was an amazing landscaper, which was fitting for her; she had a gift of making not only the flowers and plants around her more beautiful, but also brought beauty into the life of everyone around her. She was an incredible wife, mom, mother-in-law, and close friend to so many. She was also a fabulous Grandma, and was quick to smile at any mention of her sweet grandkids, Vivian (7), Tom (3), and Emerson (2).

The most important things to Cheryl were her faith and her family.  Cheryl was a member of the Nazarene Church in Spokane and Sandpoint, and had a close relationship with Jesus.  Cheryl went home to Jesus on Sunday, October 20th, surrounded by her loving husband and two sons.  She was preceded in death by her brother Tim, and her parents. She is survived by her husband Dan, sons Aron and Paul, and daughters in law Kaatri (married to Aron), and Doni (married to Paul) grandchildren Vivian, Tom (Paul & Doni)and  Emerson (Aron & Kaatri) .

Funeral services will be held at Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11am.
