She went to work in the laundry and kitchen at the Farragut Naval Training Station in Athol, Idaho in 1944 with her 2 sisters and her mother. It is now known as Farragut State Park.

She married the late Gary E. Vaughan November 29, 1963. They moved several times in their 49 years of marriage, crossing the country from Idaho to Florida, California, Nevada, and Washington but they always called Sandpoint their home. They finally settled permanently in Sagle, Idaho in 1994.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gary Vaughan, Son Charles Riffle, Daughters Barbara Davis-Mehuron and Kathy Goforth, 1 Brother Floyd Wise, 1 Sister Ethel Woodward.

Doris loved drives in the country taking elk, deer and turkey pictures. She loved feeding the deer and turkeys that wandered into her yard. She made two trips to Alaska with her family when she was in her 80’s. Catching salmon while trolling in the ocean and fishing the local rivers.

A favorite hobby was shopping for a clearance deal on clothes at JC Penney’s in Sandpoint. Even at 94 she still loved to dress up and put on her favorite jewelry. She was known for her assortment of jewelry. The nursing home staff at Lifecare called her their resident glamor girl.

Doris loved spending time catching up with family and spending time with grand kids and great grand kids at family functions. Something most people don’t know about Doris is that she loved raising birds. Watching Canaries and Finches hatch from eggs she nurtured fascinated her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
