Dorothy W. Long

August 5, 1932 — July 26, 2023

Dorothy W. Long (90) passed away peacefully from natural causes at the Sandpoint Idaho Life Care Center on July 26, 2023. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband Col. Arthur W. Long (retired) of Hope, Idaho and more recently her brother, Robert (Bob) Howard Day of Buffalo, Wyoming.

Dorothy and her brother Bob were the only children of Josephine and F.C. (Charlie) Day. Dorothy grew up as a young girl on a ranch in southern Colorado and loved horses. She moved to Boulder, Colorado where she met her husband and attended grade school, high school, and graduated from the University of Colorado with an art scholarship. As a military wife she lived in Utah, Minnesota, Maryland, California, Oklahoma, Kansas, Virginia, Costa Rica, Panama, and South Korea before retiring to live on the Hope peninsula. While living in the Panama Canal Zone she worked as a school teacher at the Curundu Junior High School.

She loved artwork and produced paintings and enjoyed drawing until her final days and she loved her flower garden while living in Hope. Dorothy (N7XTU) and her husband (N7NFC) were amateur radio operators and would stay in touch with their son Stephen (N7MZP) on their many motorhome adventures.

Her daughter Wendy is registered nurse and was an enormous help and comfort to Dorothy. There is a lot to be said for having a nurse in the family and she practically lived at the nursing home in Dorothy’s last days.

Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter in law, Stephen and Cindy Long of Sandpoint, Idaho, her daughter and son in law, Wendy Long-Brandt and Jeff Brandt of Galt, California, her brother Robert Day’s wife Kathie Day of Buffalo, Wyoming and many cousins and their families including Alice Higman Reich, Karon (Shane) Rudibaugh, Sharon (Justin) Bailey and Eliza (Ven) Thompson. No funeral or services are planned at this time. See more information and sign her guestbook at https://www.coffeltfuneral.com/obituary/dorothy-long
