Duane Billy Syth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in the comfort of his own home on the evening of June 20th, 2025.
Duane was born in Spencer, Wisconsin in September of 1932. His family made their way to Heron, Montana in his early childhood, then onto Bonners Ferry where he met his sweetheart, Norma Jean. He quickly took her to the hitching post in Coeur d’Alene to make her his wife. Shortly after they got married they stumbled across a quiet little farm house. He risked it all but it became a dream come true & was named the Broken Arrow Ranch.
Duane led a long life of 92 years. Married to the love of his life, Norma Jean Langford-Syth for 73 years. They brought up six children together on their 312 acre ranch on the outskirts of Sandpoint. Duane raised hay, cattle, & horses.
Duane retired from Louisiana Pacific in 1996 & was nicknamed the “million dollar man” for being the one man who made the company the most money in the north west during his career.
Duane was a beloved father, & friend to all. Respected & loved by all who knew him. His memory lives on by his wife, Norma Syth, his 6 children; Steve Syth, Rick Syth, Linda Valenti, Tom Syth, Kimberly Syth, & Kristi Sonely. Followed by 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren & 3 great-great grandchildren.
