Eugene Albert Rumelhart

Eugene A Rumelhart (90) of Sandpoint, Idaho passed away in his home on October 25th, 2023.

Eugene was born on November 19th, 1932 in Baker, Montana. He was a loving father, a caring grandfather, a proud veteran, and lastly an excellent cribbage player.

He married Pauline on March 7th, 1959 in Cheney, Washington after his time in the U.S. Coast Guard. He and Pauline lived an adventurous life living in 7 different states. During his time in the Marshall Islands, he touched many lives as an educator. Eugene and Pauline were nationally recognized breeder for award winning basset hounds. Gene was always good with is hands and was an accomplished woodcarver, an honest fisherman, a gardener, a golfer, and a hunter. His children and grandchildren always loved to see his latest projects.  

Eugene was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Sandpoint. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline in 2005. He is survived by his four children, Kathy Alexander of Portland, Oregon, Patty Shinn of Denver, Colorado, Becky Perry of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Timothy Rumelhart of Sandpoint, Idaho, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Gene’s funeral will be held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church of Sandpoint on November 3rd, 2023 at 10am for friends and family.
