Gene Burke Glazier

September 15, 1930 — June 11, 2025

Laclede

Gene Glazier, 94, of Laclede, Idaho, passed away on June 11, 2025, surrounded by family.

Gene was born on September 15, 1930, in Winnett, Montana, to parents Gladys and Albert

Glazier. They moved to Idaho in 1938 and his family settled in Laclede.

He met his wife of 52 years, Betty, in Spokane after he was discharged from the Air Force. They married in 1956 and moved to their home in Laclede. Gene spent his early working years in the rock crushing industry where he was known for his strong work ethic. After a life-altering injury brought his career to a close, he turned to the land he loved—raising cattle and starting a small but thriving blueberry farm.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Air Force stationed in Japan during the Korean War, where he was assigned as a crew chief maintaining aircraft engines.

Gene had a lifelong love for the open road and the wide Montana sky. He especially treasured road trips with his kids. They shared countless memories traveling together to bull sales, the National Bison Range, Lewistown, and the countryside of central Montana—revisiting the places of his youth and soaking in the beauty of the land.

Though he didn’t always speak volumes, Gene had a way of making his feelings known—with a sly grin, a well-timed “Oh, the heck,” or a quiet chuckle that said more than words ever could. If a conversation got too heated or too personal, he’d simply smile, offer a shrug, and move on—always choosing peace over pride.

He never met a problem he couldn’t solve—whether it was a broken fence, a stubborn machine, or a situation that just needed some common sense and patience. He was a familiar and proud presence at the annual Bonner County Fair, where he loved watching his niece and nephew show steers purchased from him.

Gene lived a long and meaningful life grounded in family, hard work, and quiet joy. He is survived by his son (Craig of Missoula), daughter (Nancy of Spokane), daughter-in-law (Bonnie of Laclede), son-in-law (Dick of Post Falls), three grandsons (Trevor and Whitney of Troy, Rich, Kelsey and great-granddaughter, Leona of Otis Orchards and Quinn of Laclede), sister (Barbara of Oldtown), brother (Keith of Sandpoint), and sister-in-law (Cherry of Sandpoint). He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his daughter, Laura, and eight brothers and sisters.

His calm wisdom, dry humor, and warm heart will be missed by all who loved him.
