Sandpoint

Lillian Claire Andwood (née Didwell), 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 28, 2025 in Sandpoint, Idaho surrounded by her family.

The Vigil/Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm, Monday, July 7, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 8, 2025 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Rob Cook officiating. Interment will take place in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Lillian was born July 6, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, the fourth of six daughters born to Evelyn and John Didwell. She grew up in a lively and loving Catholic family who instilled in her a commitment to her faith that she carried throughout her life. She attended St. Michael's High School where she met her lifelong friends Kathleen Draper (née Beauregard) and Patricia Bolger (née Carney). She earned a BS at the New York Institute of Technology with certifications in child abuse and alcohol counseling, and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where she earned a Masters of Social Work. Her career as a social worker illustrated her compassion and commitment to serving the most vulnerable in society. She was a founding member of the Suffolk Coalition to Prevent Alcohol and Drug Dependencies and was a dedicated supporter of the pro-life movement, tirelessly working on campaigns, running for local offices on the pro-life ticket, and praying countless hours in front of abortion clinics.

In 1983, she married Donald Andwood. She devoted her life to raising and providing for her children, first as a stay-at-home mom and later working to provide the funds for their continued education. After Donald was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2016 he and Lillian planned to live closer to their grandchildren, and in 2019 moved from their home of over 30 years in Setauket, NY to Idaho. There Lillian was the main caretaker of her husband, a heroic effort especially during the isolation of the pandemic, until his death in 2021. She leaves a legacy of self-sacrifice and largeheartedness that radiated from her devotion to her Catholic faith, her family, and the whole community.

Lillian is survived by her three children: Peter Andwood (Gretchen), Kenneth Andwood (Amy), and Mary Claire Shoff (Allen); and four sisters: Barbara Cappiello (Mike), Florita Didwell, Marian Liebling (Scott), and Loretta Didwell. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren: Ingrid and Conrad Andwood; and Felicity, Cecilia, James, John, and Thomas Shoff, who live in Sandpoint.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Evelyn Stoehr, and her husband, Donald.
