Lois Katherine Nelson

May 27, 1957 — March 23, 2019

Lois Katherine Nelson, 61, passed from this Earth into the arms of Heaven on March 23, 2019. She fought a valiant battle with ALS and died in the comfort of her home with her children at her side.

Lois was born on May 27, 1957, in Sandpoint, Idaho to Erven Windecker and Isabel “Liz” (Schneider). She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1975. Lois was an artistic, sensitive, and creative soul who, over the years, practiced calligraphy handwriting, stained glass, and had a career as a hairdresser for over two decades. Lois was a lifelong resident of Sandpoint who had a deep love for animals, her plants and gardens, feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard, shopping for treasures at the local thrift stores, and in her final years of life, camping alongside her companion, Orin Miller.

Lois will be most fondly remembered by her 3 daughters: Cameo Chambers (Curtis) of Redmond, Oregon, Kaitlan Nelson of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Baylee Nelson of Redding, California; her mother Isabel “Liz” Schneider; her 2 grandchildren, Caedie Chambers, and Cale Dunaway, and her big brother Dan Tintinger. Lois was preceded in death by her father Erven T. Windecker and her beloved grandparents and aunts & uncles who she spoke fondly of her entire life. We imagine her surrounded by the menagerie of precious cats, dogs, and pets she cared for during her lifetime.

Lois’ life can be best summed up by a verse we found written and posted in her house: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” ~Matthew 7:7

A graveside service at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery and celebration of life are planned for June.
