Patricia "Pat" Rogers, 90, passed away in Spokane, on Monday, February 26, 2024. Pat was born on February 12, 1934 in Havre, Montana, the daughter of Albert and Frances Gerstenberger.
Pat grew up in Trout Creek, Montana. She moved to Sandpoint and lived with a local family to help with their children while attending high school. She met Les Rogers at The Fountain, owned by Joe and Murle Rogers. They married in 1953 in Orange County while Les was in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton. They have four daughters: Carol (Bob) Berger of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Linda (Doug) Wiley of Spokane, Francie Rogers of Bellevue, Washington, and Leslie Rogers of Spokane, Washington.
Pat had six grandchildren: Rob Berger, Tricia Hunting, Andrew Wiley, Matthew Wiley, Leyna Grogan, and Michael Rogers, as well as twelve great-grandchildren with number thirteen on the way.
Pat and Les were in the grocery business in Sandpoint. Pat worked in the office M & J Grocery Store, North Idaho Foods, which had stores in Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, and St. Maries, and Rogers’ Excel Foods. The Rogers built the current Safeway store on 5th Avenue and the Yoke’s at the Bonner Mall.
After the grocery stores were sold, Pat worked as a greeter at K-Mart, and worked at the Company Store. Les passed away in 2003. Pat remained in Sandpoint until 2014. She moved to Arizona for five years, then returned to Sandpoint.
Pat loved her family very much. She was a charter member of the Sandpoint Junior Women’s Club. In later life, she was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed dancing at the Elk’s Club, reading, doing puzzles, playing Bunco and card games. The family celebrated her 90th Birthday two weeks before her death.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am, on Friday, March 8, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sandpoint, Idaho. Graveside services will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Pat will be buried with her husband Les Rogers.
