Richard Calvin Tucker

February 18, 1935 — April 23, 2021

Richard C. (Dick) Tucker passed away from complications of Covid-19 on April 23, 2021.  He was born on February 18, 1935 in Coeur d’Alene to Alfred and Ruth Tucker of Sandpoint, Idaho. He spent time in his early childhood in a logging camp and grew up on the family farm north of Sandpoint.  He attended the nearby Center Valley one-room schoolhouse for several years and graduated from Upper Columbia Academy in 1953.  He went on to graduate from Walla Walla College with a degree in Civil Engineering.  Dick married Ruth Sleeter in 1954 and they spent most of their lives in North Idaho.  Dick and Ruth had three daughters; Carol Nord of Coeur d’Alene, Lynda Bailey of Sandpoint, and Lori Kyle of College Place, WA.

A committed Christian and active member of his church, Dick spent many hours helping with various building projects at his church and also at Camp Mivoden on Hayden Lake.  His friends and neighbors knew they could always count on his help when needed. His generous spirit will surely be missed.

Through his engineering and consulting business he was involved in many land development projects throughout Bonner County.  Dick was well-respected in the community and his advice was frequently sought out on various water and sewer projects.

An outdoorsman who loved the mountains and forests of North Idaho, he was fortunate enough to own businesses that allowed him to spend a great deal of time there, both as an engineer/land surveyor and as a logger and road builder.  His children and grandchildren fondly recall many hikes with him in the mountains where he taught us the names of trees and how to look for signs of wildlife.

Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Sleeter Tucker; his sister Marjorie Dillon of Parker, Colorado; his brother Wendell of Sandpoint; his three children, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held at Pack River Cemetery and a memorial/celebration of life will be held on June 19 at 3:00 at the Sandpoint Seventh-day Adventist church located at 2235 Pine St. in Sandpoint.
