Timothy Alan Tope (Tim) peacefully passed away in Careywood, ID on July 22nd 2025 surrounded by his family.
Tim was born in Coeur d’ Alene, ID in 1952. In 1956 his family moved to Renton Washington. During the family’s time in Washington, Tim fondly recalled learning woodsman skills and camping at the base of Mt. Rainer, along with going on fishing adventures with his father and friends in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
By 1968 Tim and his family returned to Sandpoint and Tim attended Sandpoint High School. After high school Tim went on to explore employment doing well drilling, working in sawmills and logging in Montana. Within a few years he returned to Idaho and pursued a career operating heavy machinery. In 1978 Tim married Darlene Peterson and had two children. Later in 1983 he remarried to Beverly Joan Horne (Joan) and they raised their four children together. Tim and Joan were successful business owners of Granite Hill Sand and Gravel for over 25 years.
Tim truly loved the solitude of North Idaho and enjoyed working and being outdoors. He had numerous stories of his life's adventures and he found fulfillment in helping his neighbors, spending time with his grandchildren, family, friends and attending church.
Tim is preceded in death by his wife Joan Tope, son Joshua Durr, nephew Edwin (Eddy) Rickert, his mother and father Robert C. Tope and Sylvia (Peggy) Tope, his uncles Kenneth and James Tope.
Tim is survived by his children; daughter Sarah MacKay (Eric), son Clayton Tope (Shannon), daughter Emily Tope; his six grandchildren Brennan Tibbetts, Robert J. Tope (Megan), Dawson MacKay, Dillon Tope, Elaina Tope, Elisa Tope; his great grandchild Weston Tope; two siblings Heidi (George) Rickert, Honda (Jerry) Blood along with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Tim will be remembered for his rambunctious sense of humour and a willingness to take bold risks, while having a warm kind hearted spirit that cared for his family, helped his neighbors and held Christ deeply in his heart.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho.
Tim’s celebration of life service will be officiated by Pastor Steve Brown at Cocolalla Bible Church (4339 Cocolalla Loop Rd, Cocolalla, ID 83860) on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 AM and is open to all family and friends.
